Israel targets & kills professors as “terrorists”
Georgetown Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine (GFSJP) is a pro-Palestine organization of professors, students and staff at Georgetown University in Washington DC. In addition to fighting for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel, the group members
“… oppose racism, discrimination, and hatred in all its forms, including, but not limited to, anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racism, Islamophobia, and antisemitism. We repudiate the conflation of support for Palestinian liberation and criticism of the policies of the state of Israel with antisemitism.”
As of January 2024, three months after 7 Oct 2023, on this site, GFSJP published tributes to the scores of murdered professors at Gaza’s 12 universities. Israel has targeted and destroyed all of Gaza’s universities including their libraries, lecture theatres, offices and labs. This is a sample of the murdered Gaza university professors the Georgetown group has listed:
By Jan. 2024 –– 16 months ago– Israel had killed more than 9200 students and seriously injured more than 8600 students. Israel killed 3 university presidents, 95 deans and faculty members including 17 full profs, 59 more with PhDs, and 18 with MAs.
One of the dead could have been my son, who is a Canadian academic, or yours– a grad student, a high schooler or an infant. On Saturday, the Israelis carried out an air strike that killed 74 civilians and destroyed the home of two medical doctors, the al-Najjars, who worked at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Nine of the al-Najjar children were killed, one son, an 11-year-old, and the father survived but were severely hurt. The son, Adam, has his arm hanging off his body (possibly another child amputee?) and serious lacerations. Dr Alaa al-Najjar saw her dead and dying children come into the hospital when she was on duty. As the BBC reports:
Graeme Groom, a British surgeon working in the hospital who operated on her surviving 11-year-old boy, told the BBC it was “unbearably cruel” that his mother, who spent years caring for children as a paediatrician, could lose almost all her own in a single missile strike.
